Rice Ceramide: A Specialty Ingredients for Smoother Skin

Achieving smooth and healthy skin isn’t always about using skincare or cosmetics. With the specialty ingredients, women can achieve soft, youthful skin.

One example is Komecera, a rice ceramide derived from rice bran extract. Rice bran contains many glycosphingolipids, which play a role in immune and inflammatory responses. Ceramides are naturally present in the skin and help maintain the skin’s barrier function and homeostasis.

A journal titled Rice Bran: From Waste to Nutritious Food Ingredients explains that rice is primarily consumed as white rice, a refined grain produced through a milling process that removes the germ and bran, leaving only the starchy endosperm.

However, rice bran is a vital by-product generated by the rice milling industry, obtained during the polishing and milling of brown rice into white rice (polished rice). Rice bran comprises 12–18% oil containing beneficial nutraceuticals such as phospholipids, oryzanol, squalene, phytosterols, tocotrienols, and tocopherols. Rice bran can be extracted and was proven by lots of clinical studies with their effectiveness towards skin health and the ceramide content.
